Man Accused Of Stealing $1.7K After Breaking Into Car In Westchester

A 34-year-old man is facing charges after police say he broke into a car in Northern Westchester and stole approximately $1,700.

Yorktown Police responded to the parking lot of 3535 Hill Boulevard in Yorktown on Tuesday, March 12 to investigate a broken car window and an incidence of theft.

Further investigation by Yorktown Police Department Detectives led to the identification and arrest of a suspect, Juan Moreno of Flushing, on Monday, March 25 around 6 p.m.

Moreno allegedly followed the victim from a nearby bank and broke a window to enter his vehicle when the victim entered a building. Police say Moreno stole a total of $1,700 in cash.

Moreno was charged with the following:

  • Fourth-degree criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor
  • Fourth-degree grand larceny, a Class E felony

Moreno was arraigned in the Yorktown Justice Court. He was held on $10,000 cash bail and remanded to the Westchester County Department of Corrections.

Moreno is scheduled to return to Yorktown Justice Court on Tuesday, March 26.
